When it comes to quality we use only USDA Choice Black Angus beef, the freshest fruits and vegetables from our supplier, and dairy products from such well-known companies as Reiter and Smith!

A Brief Company History

Baker's was founded in Dennison, Ohio, in 1918 as Baker and Hillyer's Grocery. The company relocated to Freeport, Ohio, in 1946 when Eddy Baker returned from serving his country in WWII. In 1962 a new building was built to house the growing business.

In 1974, Gary joined his father in the business with the purchase of the former Kroger's in Newcomerstown, Ohio; the store was expanded and remodeled in 1978. That same year Gary's wife Terrie joined the business.

In 1982, Eddy Baker retired and sold the business to Gary and Terrie. In 1983 they purchased the former Food Villa store in Scio, Ohio.

In 1987, Gary and Terrie purchased the former Plaza A/G Foods in Coshocton, Ohio. This brought the number of stores to its present total of four.

In 2004, Baker's purchased the former Thompson's IGA in Newcomerstown, Ohio. That same year Baker's joined the Independent Grocer's Alliance (IGA). In 2004-2005 Baker's IGA underwent extensive remodeling in its Newcomerstown, Coshocton, and Scio locations. They are proud of the company's accomplishments and of the over 165 employees in the Baker's family!
